The “Hands of Time” Commemorative Quilt was designed to pay tribute to the past 50 years of service provided by Woodstock and District Developmental Services in support of persons with developmental disabilities living in Oxford County. The design of the quilt has symbolic representation that not only depicts the historical growth of the agency, but also captures the essence of our vision, mission, and value statements.
Initial parental involvement and commitment formed the “roots” of our organization and helped to establish a firm foundation from which to grow.
With growth came change, and these changes gave us “branches”, allowing us to stretch to reach new heights. Program development, partnerships, community involvement and ongoing commitment has resulted in a reputable, quality agency that is “standing tall and strong” within the community today.
Upon the culmination of much dedication and hard work, WDDS attained accreditation status which is indicative of the high standards of quality care that is provided. As we look ahead to future years; we will “focus” on continued quality supports and services for the people supported.
With a vision of a “Community where everybody belongs”, WDDS has empowered people to be self sufficient and independent, and like “butterflies” and “birds”, they have taken flight on their own.
The encircling “hands” are replicas of the people supported by WDDS, and symbolize the joint efforts of the many people who helped to build this organization. This “circle of unity and support” will continue to nurture and foster the agency in future years as we grow and expand our services.
In summary….WDDS stands firm and strong in their commitment to the care and support of persons with developmental disabilities and we will continue to sow whatever seeds are necessary to enable people to live full lives in the community for the next 50 years!
